Latest Ruling in the Phillip Voets vs The Republic Criminal Appeal

Here is a ruling delivered on 13th February 2026 by Honourable Justice of Appeal John Katsala, SC, in the Phillip Voets vs The Republic (MSCA Criminal Appeal No. 02 of 2025).

The Appellant was convicted after a full trial and was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 20 years. It was alleged in May 2019, with malice aforethought he caused the death of his wife, Elizabeth Khozi Voets. He appealed to the Supreme Court against both the conviction and the sentence.

The applicant was seeking an order of the Supreme Court directing that his appeal against his conviction on the charge of murder be heard despite the fact that some pages are missing from the record of appeal.
