High Court of Malawi Commercial Division holds a Joint meeting with Malawi Law Society

The High Court of Malawi Commercial Division and the Malawi Law Society held a joint meeting on Thursday the 12th of August, 2021 at the Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

The aim of the meeting was to come up with means on how to improve service delivery at the Division in all the Registries across the country. In attendance, were Judges from both Registries, Lilongwe and Blantyre and the Law Society was presented by a group of its executive members including the President himself, Counsel Patrick Mpaka.

The issues discussed among others include; use of virtual meetings for court matters, pace of case management, enforcement of judgments within 14 days etc. In his speech, the MLS President Counsel Mpaka commended the Commercial Court for the wonderful efforts in fast tracking cases which leads to timely decisions. He then welcomed the idea of incorporating virtual meetings into the justice system but called for further exploration on how best technology could benefit the effective dispensation of justice in the country. In his closing remarks, the Judge President for Commercial Court Division Hon. Justice Dr. Micheal Mtambo assured the MLS of continued interface between the Commercial Court and the Court Users, MLS specifically in a bid to iron out grey areas that may interfere with dispensation of justice in the Commercial Division
