Honourable Newton Kambala
The Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has on 11th August 2021 granted bail to Honourable Newton Kambala, Honourable Enock Chihana and Mr. Chris Chaima who were arrested by the Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) earlier in the week.
The three accused persons are answering to the offence of conspiracy to influence a public officer to abuse her office contrary to section 25B (2) as read with section 35 of the Corrupt Practices Act among other offences.
As part of their bail conditions, each accused person has been ordered to surrender his travelling documents to the court, to deposit a cash bond of K200,000.00 with the Court and to produce two reliable sureties who are to be on a non-cash bond of K10,000,000.00.
The accused persons are required to be reporting to the ACB offices once a fortnight. They also have been forbidden from interfering with any state witness.
The three shall appear before Court for trial once a date is set by the Court.
