The Judiciary this week held a two-day Child Justice Training for Child Justice Magistrates in Dowa. The training, which was aimed at strengthening a collective approach within the judicial system to protect and uphold the rights of children, was organized by the Family and Probate Division of the High Court.
Speaking when she officially opened the training on Wednesday, 28th May 2025, Chairperson of the Judiciary Training Committee, Honourable Justice Violet Chipao said the training was not merely an academic exercise, but a reaffirmation of judicial officers’ duty to safeguard the integrity of child justice and ensure fairness, efficiency, and sensitivity in handling cases involving children.
Justice Chipao further implored the participants to take the training sessions seriously and apply the knowledge gained. She reminding them that the Child Justice Court is one of the closest courts to society’s most vulnerable groups: women and children.
“These individuals turn to our courts with hope, seeking protection and fairness. It is our responsibility to ensure their matters are handled with urgency, accuracy, and utmost diligence. Justice must not be delayed, and legal processes must not be flawed. Children deserve rulings that safeguard their rights rather than expose them to further harm,” said Justice Chipao.
The training brought together Chief Resident Magistrates, Resident Magistrates, and Second Grade Magistrates. The Family and Probate Division of the High Court handles legal matters related to families and deceased estates, including divorce, child maintenance, child adoption, inheritance, and succession, among others.
