Nine newly recruited magistrates on 12th April, 2024 took oath of office at the Commercial Division, High Court of Malawi, in Lilongwe.
In his address, the Honourable Chief Justice, Rizine R. Mzikamanda, SC congratulated the new magistrates and encouraged them to work hard with sober minds.
The Honourable Chief Justice also cautioned them against being involved in corrupt practices and warned them that his office would not shield anyone if they found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
The Chief Justice further implored the new magistrates to treat both colleagues and court users with respect regardless of their social status.
The cohort comprised 9 magistrates, 4 of whom are female. They are as follows: Her Worships Sara Mwangonde; Samai Muhammad Uthman; Chifundo Jonasi Chikoti and Sabina Malimbasa Chowe and His Worships Steve Captain Dan Mchenga; Gift Clement Msume, Iman Alley-abu, Masauko Daniel Chijere and Ephraim Daniel Chikwakwa.
This brings the total number of magistrates in Malawi to 222. The addition of these new magistrates will go a long way in beefing up the magistracy to enhance justice delivery system and strengthen the rule of law in Malawi.
The Honourable Registrar, His Honour Kondwani Banda administered oaths of office to the new magistrates in the presence of the Honourable the Chief Justice and the magistrates’ families.
In attendance were also the Senior Deputy Registrar, His Honour Kingsley Mlungu and the Chief Resident Magistrate (Centre) Her Worship, Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza in her capacity as a Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission.
