The Malawi Judiciary, through its Judiciary Communications Committee, has organised a two-day interface meeting with journalists, which commenced this morning in Dowa at Mponela.
In his opening remarks, the Honourable Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore Chikopa emphasised the significance of information and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the media and the Judiciary.
He said that public officers, including members of the Judiciary, exercise powers entrusted to them by the public under constitutional provisions. He further explained that these powers are granted on the basis of public trust. As long as this trust remains intact, public officers can continue in their roles; however, they are expected to step down once that trust erodes.
"That is why politicians go to the polls every five years. In the Judiciary, we also exercise our authority on behalf of the public, adhering strictly to principles of accountability, transparency, and independence.
