Hon. Justice Prof. Kapindu Elected into the IARMJ Supervisory Council

Honourable Justice Prof. Redson Kapindu

Honourable Justice Prof. Redson Kapindu, Judge of the High Court of Malawi, was elected into the Supervisory Council of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges (IARMJ).

The election took place in November 2025 at the conclusion of the 14th IARMJ World Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya. Justice Prof. Kapindu, who currently serves as Judge in Charge of the Financial Crimes Division, was part of the Malawi delegation to the conference that also included Honourable Justice Zione Ntaba and Honourable Justice Mandala Mambulasa.

Centred on the theme “Protecting the Integrity of the Refugee and Migration Systems,” the 2025 World Conference drew participation from IARMJ members, including Judges, Magistrates and Jurists of all levels working with, or interested in, refugee law, complementary protection, statelessness and migration law issues.

The 12-member Supervisory Council is the highest body in the governance structure of the Association to which the Association’s President and the 5 Chapter Presidents from the various regions of the world report. The Council has overall oversight over, and supervision of the Management Board. The Council is made up of 12 members from France, Tunisia, South Africa, Netherlands, United Kingdom (2), Canada, Philippines, Malawi, Costa Rica, and New Zealand (2) and is currently Chaired by retired Judge Louise Moor from New Zealand.

Core to IARMJ’s mission is the recognition that protection from persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion is a fundamental right guaranteed under international law, and that all relevant processes, including the determination of refugee status and its cessation, should be subject to the rule of law. The IARMJ is committed to upholding the important principle of non-refoulement under asylum and refugee law.

The Honourable the Chief Justice of the Republic of Malawi, Rizine R. Mzikamanda, SC and the entire Judiciary congratulate Justice Prof. Kapindu on his election to this prestigious international assignment and wishes him every success as he contributes to the advancement of international refugee law and the global administration of justice.
