State President appoints and swears in new High Court Judges

His Excellency the State President, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, appointed four new High Court Judges in July, 2024.

The new judges are: Honourable Justice Kondwani Banda, formerly Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal; Honourable Justice Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza, formerly Chief Resident Magistrate for Central Region; Honourable Justice Edna Bodole, formerly Deputy Chairperson of Industrial Relations Court; and finally, Honourable Justice Trouble Kalua, formerly Director of the Legal Aid Bureau.

The appointments of Honourable Justices Banda, Chimwaza and Bodole were with effect from 2nd July, 2024 while that of Honourable Justice Kalua was with effect from 31st July, 2024. These appointments bring the total number of High Court Judges to 45.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has appointed His Honour Innocent Nebi as the Acting Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal.

The new High Court Judges were sworn in on Monday, 26th August, 2024 at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The Judiciary extends warm congratulations to all Honourable Justices on their appointments and swearing in and wishes them well in their new roles.
